The Research, Innovation, Incubation & Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Cell is a dedicated body established to foster a culture of research, creativity, entrepreneurship, and innovation within the college. National Service Scheme (NSS) is a public service initiative in India designed to help students grow personally by engaging in communityservice.Launchedin1969,itissupportedbytheMinistryofYouth Affairs and Sports. NSS volunteers participate in a range of social welfare efforts, including promoting literacy, improving health and hygiene, protecting the environment, and assisting in disaster relief. The programme encourages students to take responsibility for society and helps develop a strong sense of empathy and social understanding among young people.

Aim

The aim of NSS is to encourage students to take part in social service without discrimination and to contributetothewelfareofsociety.Volunteersfocusonsupportingthoseinneed,helpingtoimprovetheir quality of life and promote dignity. While doing this, students also gain valuable life lessons from the experiences of rural communities, particularly about resilience and simplicity. NSS also plays an important role in providing relief during natural or man-made disasters by supplying food, clothes, and first aid.

Types of Activities

NSS activities fall into two categories:

  • Regular Activities (120hours)
  • Annual Special Camps (120hours)

Volunteerswhocomplete two years of service and contribute at least 240 hours are eligible to receive a certificate signed by the Vice-Chancellor and the Programme Coordinator.

SpecialCampsaretypicallyheldonceayearandaresupportedbygovernmentfunding. These camps usually take place in rural areas or city outskirts and involve tasks such as:

  • Awareness campaigns on education, health, hygiene, and social issues
  • Cleanliness drives in schools, villages, and public spaces
  • Tree plantation and environmental conservation efforts
  • Literacy and tutoring programs for underprivileged children

Introduction

The Department of Lifelong Learning and Extension (D.L.L.E.) was established on October 12, 1978 and is recognized as a statutory department. Since 1994, it has been an important authority of the University of Mumbai, aiming to foster a meaningful and lasting connection between universities and the community. The department operates under the Board for Lifelong Learning and Extension with the goal of creating a skilled and knowledgeable workforce through its various degree programs and skill development initiatives.

Extension education is a two-way process that encourages the mutual sharing of resources between the community and the university, benefiting both the public and the students. This approach also aims to raise students’ awareness of socio-cultural issues. The D.L.L.E. supports community-based extension activities, working with the underserved population. Its central mission is to offer educational programs that improve the quality of life for these communities under the motto “Reach to the Unreached.”

Degree college students from the faculties of Arts, Commerce, and Science are awarded 10 additional marks in their final exams upon completing 120 hours of work on the Extension Work Project.

1)   Objective:

This Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) aims to provide a structured framework for the College Admission Committee to conduct the admission process in a fair, transparent, and efficient manner.
